What traditional holiday foods tell us about New Mexico history and culture

A plate of 6 tamales, still wrapped in corn husks are stacked on a rust red earthenware plate. The plate sits atop a light brown wood cutting board, with a corner and edge peeking out from under the left of the plate. Below and behind te cutting board, are tan woren place mats. A mug and the bottom of a pitcher, matching the plate, are in the background behind the plate and moderately out of focus.

Join Dr. Carol Moder, Director of the Doel Reed Center in Taos, for a holiday overview of New Mexico food & culture. Hear the story of how cultural exchange among Pueblos and Spanish settlers shaped the unique cultural foodways of the Land of Enchantment. This virtual talk focuses on three distinctive foods that are part of New Mexico holiday traditions: pumpkin, tamales, & biscochitos. Recipes will be provided!
